The Mineral Resources Department is part of the Timberlands organization and is responsible for the management and development of the company's mineral assets. Weyerhaeuser owns over 7.2 million net mineral acres in the following states: Washington, Oregon, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Arkansas. These lands currently have over 1000 producing oil and gas wells and 38 active hard mineral mines (construction aggregates, coal, silica, and other industrial minerals) from which Weyerhaeuser derives revenue. Additionally, Weyerhaeuser has active precious and base metals projects. This position will play a key role on the Hard Minerals Team which is responsible for the exploration and development of new opportunities, hands-on management of existing leases, and the negotiation of new deals.
Key Functions & Requirements:
The position requires a minimum of B.S. degree (MS degree strongly preferred) in Economic Geology and at least 10 years of experience in the minerals industry, principally with early state projects, and exposure to a variety of hard mineral commodities. This position has responsibility in the hard minerals sector for supporting new business development and for negotiating and managing agreements with lessees and other customers on Weyerhaeuser property. In conjunction with the Hard Minerals Team, this position is responsible for developing and implementing action plans necessary to achieve the department's revenue targets and other goals.

Requirements
Excellent field skills: geologic mapping and interpretations, sampling, resource calculations, and drill program management.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills in solving problems, building consensus, coordinating resources and nurturing partnerships with customers and team members.
Understands ore deposit models and mineral economics. Skillful in conceptualizing business development opportunities involving a variety of mineral commodities over varied geologic terrain and market conditions.
A clear understanding of the stages necessary to develop and manage a mineral resource from exploration through production, including personal experience.
Resourceful strategic planner adept at marketing resource opportunities to developers.
Outstanding negotiation skills and familiarity with agreements between landowners and mine operators.
Results-oriented and adept at increasing revenue. Experienced in P&L management, risk assessment, financial modeling, identifying problems, defining solutions, and implementing new processes and procedures.
Working knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes and the ability to serve as a persuasive representative of Weyerhaeuser in public forums as an advocate for projects. Specifically, the candidate will possess a broad-based knowledge of permitting issues and processes at local, county, state and federal levels.
