At Weyerhaeuser, we own or manage 20.9 million acres of timberlands in the Pacific Northwest and the Southeastern United States, across central and western Canada, and in Uruguay. We intensively manage our lands using scientific principles and environmentally responsible techniques that enhance the production of wood, while maintaining the overall health of the ecosystem. Many of our forests grow wood at two to three times the rate of comparable, unmanaged forests, allowing us to efficiently meet the needs of our customers. Our information technology forestry applications are an important asset in management of our forests. They are used in all phases of the growth and harvest cycles.
The Timberlands IT team has an opportunity for an IT Manager with software development/support management experience to lead the Timberlands IT Forestry Applications unit. The IT Manager for Forestry Applications is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining all forestry systems for our Timberlands Business, including inventory, analysis, and reporting systems. This position reports to the Director of Timberlands IT and is located at our Corporate Headquarters in Federal Way, Washington. This is a full time, exempt position. Some travel will be required.
Responsibilities Include:
Management of the Forestry Applications unit, a professional IT team of approximately 15 professionals with a variety of computing, forestry, GIS, and remote sensing skills.
Development, implementation, testing, and customer support for approximately 30 forestry management applications, with emphasis on forestry inventory and harvest planning systems.
Providing technical support of IT projects that have maximum importance to Timberlands, with high visibility, financial impact, technical complexity and staff size. Responsible for providing direction and coordination of development teams, including vendors and consultants; for directing and controlling all phases of software development using appropriate project management methodology (e.g., PACE); and for measuring results.
Guiding business teams in forestry process analysis, and leading the teams when required.
Achieving high levels of customer satisfaction.
Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Minimum of twelve (12) years IT experience, with minimum of five (5) years software development/support management experience, including employees and contractors.
Proven and demonstrated IT leadership roles.
Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent organizational and planning skills with demonstrated ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks in order to meet deadlines.
Proficient oral and written communications skills. Collaborates well in a team environment. Sensitive to clients' needs; can develop warm client relationships.
Qualifications Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Forestry or closely related field, with experience in forest management, biometrics, and silviculture.
Experience with GIS software, including the implementation of GIS software into forestry management systems.
Proven ability to build solid relationships with customers and clients.
